Petra is known for her broad range of comedy work on stage and screen, both nationally and internationally.
On screen, Petra has starred in two seasons of the BBC comedy sci-fi ‘Hyperdrive’ with Miranda Hart and Nick Frost, as regular crew member “Sandstrom” the enhanced human, as well as playing roles in ‘Miranda’, and ‘Comedy Cuts’ and ‘Headcases’ for ITV.
On stage, she is best known as co-founder and performer with award winning physical comedy company ‘Spymonkey’, which has been the subject of academic study by undergraduates of Rose Bruford, University of York, University of Northampton, as well as PhD doctorate work by Lucy Amsden of Glasgow University, and Laura Cockett of Liverpool University. Publications examining the company’s work include Demian Reis’s examination of modern clowning ‘Caçadores de Risos’ and Stephen Pritchard’s study of contemporary dramatic practice. Spymonkey are an associate company of the National Independent Schools Drama Association (NISDA), and appear on a number of GCSE and A level syllabuses as an exceptional example of devised physical theatre, clown and comedy.
Other stage work includes, performing with ‘Told By An Idiot’, Shakespeare’s Globe 2015 Acting Company playing Mistress Overdone in Dominic Dromgoole’s ‘Measure for Measure’, in ‘Bless’ (international tour & nominated for 3 Betty Mitchell Awards including best actress Petra Massey), ‘Moby Dick’, (Lyric Hammersmith) and ‘Christmas Carol’ (Liverpool Playhouse).
Petra is also a keen collaborator and has worked on a wide range of projects including: ‘Miss Behaves Variety Nightie’, (The Roundhouse) ‘Palazzo’, Sandi Tokvigs Christmas Cracker’ (with Ronnie Corbett), ‘Jekyll & Hyde(ish)’, ‘Spookshow’, and ‘The Flop’ (nominated Total Theatre Award)
Petra joined Swiss action theatre, Karl’s Kuhne Gassenchau (KKG) in 1996 for Grand Paradis, S.T.E.I.N.B.R.U.C.H, and ‘Stau’. She headlined with Circus Knie and has performed in Zumanity – Another Side of Cirque du Soleil at the New York New York Hotel Casino, Las Vegas, Barbican and Pleasance Theatre in “Office Party Xmas”,
Petra played Fleta in ‘Iolanthe’ at the ENO directed by Cal McCrystal last year, and is currently performing in Las Vegas starring as Boozy Skunkton, host of Spiegelworld’s ‘Atomic Saloon’ at the Venetian.
