Rew is a British character actor based in Bristol.

Best known for his physical comedy, Rew’s work has always sat at the meeting point between creating vivid, detailed and idiosyncratic characters, and highly imaginative, collaborative performance-making. His work spans theatre, television, audio, children’s and family work, actor-musicianship, immersive, interactive and outdoor performance, and new writing. He’s toured extensively throughout the UK and internationally.

Originally training in acting, clown, and ensemble performance at École Philippe Gaulier, alongside Lecoq-influenced theatre-making, Rew has spent much of his career making and performing original productions in close collaboration with writers and directors, and is a highly experienced improviser.

He’s worked with a number of multi-award-winning companies, including NIE, Peepolykus and Common Wealth, as well as on two multi-BAFTA-winning TV series, including Grandpa In My Pocket. In 2015, he was a Finalist in the BBC Norman Beaton Fellowship Awards for radio drama. He was an Associate Artist of Point Blank, from 2009 to 2015 and a member of the actor-musician repertory company, Cut-To-The-Chase, from 2009-2011, and he’s played at, among other venues, Bristol Old Vic, Leeds Playhouse, Chichester Festival Theatre and Lyric Hammersmith

From 2016-2024, Rew was a Senior Lecturer in Acting at Bath Spa University, where he trained and directed actors in theatre-making, acting processes, comedy, clown and improvisation, on the BA (Hons) Acting and Comedy courses.

Rew is drawn to characters who are trying to hold things together when the ground shifts beneath them: characters whose competence, humour or authority is tested by uncertainty, and whose behaviour often reveals more than they would ever choose to say aloud.

Recent work includes playing The Storyteller, in Murray Lachlan Young’s Twelve Yuletide Yarns (Theatre Porto/Eastern Angles), and Lord Nelson, with Cirque Bijou. He’s currently playing Shaun Hatcher, a disgruntled ex-Britpop star, in Rakkit Productions’ new audio comedy series The Young Volts.
